Ask a Teacher

what is a stomata? Give two functions of stomata.

The stomata are pores in leaves. They are responsibe for gas exchange. Carbon dioxide enters through the stomata. Oxygen enters through the stomata. Usually, the stomata is the hole in the middle of a guard/s cell, underneath a leaf of a plant.
  1. It helps in gaseous exchange for the process of respiration and photosynthesis in plants.
  2. It also facilitates the process of transpiration, thus cooling down the plant body.
  3. Along with transpiration, stomata help in ascent of sap in plants.
