What is Propene?

Propene is a colourless gas, which has no smell. It is sometimes stored as a liquid under pressure and/or at low temperatures. Propene is highly flammable. It will dissolve slightly in water and mixes with organic (carbon-containing) solvents. Propene is part of a family of organic compounds called Alkenes. Propene is one of a group of substances known as the volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Propene is widely used in the chemical industry to produce plastics, foams, fibres, resins and a variety of other chemical products ranging from antifreeze, cosmetics and food additives to dyes and hydraulic fluids.
