1. Answers: 1) Cooking pans have plastics handles. A metal handle would get almost as hot as the pot, while cooking something for an extended time. Wood and plastic does not conduct heat as well as metal, so a wooden or plastic handle is used in cookwares. 2) Refrigerator have a plastic foam core. It is used because plastics are good insulators and they can resist the low temperature easily , as well as balance the temperature of the surrounding with the temperature of the refrigerator. 3) Burning of plastics causes air pollution. It generates large amount of carbon-di-oxide and other hazardous gases which causes health and environment problems. In air it contributes reduction in quality of air by adding unwanted CO2 ,CO gases. 4) Bakelite is used for making electrical switches. Bakelite is used in making electrical appliances because it has very good electrical insulating properties. 5) Electric wires have a plastic covering. Electrical wires are coated in plastic to prevent conduction of electricity to people or other metallic and conductive materials. Plastic is also flexible and will bend around tight corners and through narrow spaces. |
