DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN STRONG ACID AND WEAK ACIDS.IDENTIFY THE STRONG AND WEAK ACIDS AMONG THE FOLLOWING; HCl,ACETIC ACID,FORMIC ACID,NITRIC ACID. |
The strength of an acid depends on the number of H+ ions produced .That is if we take one molar concentration (1 mole acid dissolved in 1 litre of solution ) of hydrochloric acid and acetic acid ,then the acid which give rise to more of H+ ions is a strong acid and the one which gives less H+ ions is a weaker acid . Strong acid : HCl ,HNO3 Weak acid : HCOOH ,CH3COOH |
