TWO IDENTICAL RESISTORS EACH OF RESISTANCE 10 OHM ARE CONNECTED IN (a)SERIES (b)PARALLEL TO A 6V BATTERY. CALCULATE THE RATIO OF POWER CONSUMED IN THE COMBINATION OF RESISTORS IN THE CASES. |
(i) when connected in series : Rs = R1 + R2 = 20 ? (ii)when connected in parallel: 1/Rp = 1/R1 + 1/R2 = 1/10 + 1/10 = 2/10 Rp = 5 ? Power consumed in the first case : We have Power,P = V2/R = 36/20 = 9/5 Power consumed in the second case: P = 36/5 Therefore ratio of power consumed = Ps/Pp = 9/5 / 36/5 = 1/4 = 1 : 4
