Naming of organic  compounds

       Ex:      CH3 - CH - (C2H5)2
The IUPAC name of the compound is as ;

      The longest chain contains five carbon atoms is taken for consideration.  

         5CH3
          l
         4CH2
          l
CH3 - 3CH - 2CH2 - 1CH3

The parent alkane is pentane.  One methyl group is attached in third carbon. So the compound name is
            3 - methyl Pentane.
