properties of some elements are given.name them if possible and where would we locate this elements? 1.an element with variable valency(more than one)stored under water. 2.an element which is tetra valent in organic chemistry. |
1. Phosphorus shows valencies of 3 or 5. Five is the highest valency as it has 5 electrons in its outer orbit and is in Group V of the Periodic table. This means there are two lots of simple compounds egc: P2O3, PCl3- valency 3 P2O5, PCl5 - valency 5 Phosphorous is stored under water to prevent it from igniting, when it comes in contact with air. Phosphorous is the 15th element on the periodic table. It is located in period 3 and group 15. 2. Carbon has tetravalency, since it has four electrons in its outermost shell, ie., the valency . It is the sixth element and is located in Group 14, Period 2. |
