Define reproductive isolation with example? |
Reproductive isolation refers to any mechanism that prevents two species from creating offspring together. Reproductive isolation can be either pre-zygotic or post-zygotic.An example of reproductive isolation is found in insects. Insects each have a very different male part that cannot fit into another species' female part, thereby making sure two different species do not try to mate. Another example is brook trout and rainbow trout, which spawn in different times of year, so they cannot mate together. |
