Show that the point P(-4,2) lies on the line segment joining the points A(-4,6) and B(-4,-6).

If point P (– 4, 2) lie on the line segment A (– 4, 6) and B (– 4, – 6).

Then it will satisfy

AP + PB = AB

Thus AP + PB = 4 units + 8 units = 12 units  ............ (1)

from (1) and (2) we get

AP + PB = AB
Hence point P lies on the line segment AB.
