Difference between a zygote and a gamete |
Zygote and embryo are both terms used early in a pregnancy to describe the unborn child. However, there is a difference between the two. A zygote is the original fertilized cell, whereas an embryo is a multi-cellular diploid that is undergoing the first stages of development. Gametes are reproductive cells that unite during sexual reproduction to form a new cell called a zygote.Gametes are produced by a type of cell division called meiosis. They are haploid, meaning that they contain only one set of chromosomes. When the haploid male and female gametes unite in a process called fertilization, they form what is called a zygote |
