Ask a Teacher

water in a canal, 6m wide and 1.5m deep, is flowing at a speed of 4km/h. how much area will it irrigate in 10 minutes, if 8cm of standing water is needed for irrigation.

volume of the water coming out in 1 hour of 6 m wide and 1.5 deep with speed of 10 km /hr (speed = 10*1000 m/hr)

therefore the volume of the water coming out in 10 min
let the area irrigated be xm2
Standing water height be h = 8 cm = 8/100 = 0.08 m
therefore
since 1 hectare = 10000 sq m
thus the area irrigated =  18.75 hectare
