Jane Austen was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her novel give us a glimpse of the world of women in genteel rural Society in early 19th century Britain.  It gives a picture of society which encouraged women to look for ‘good’ marriages and            find wealthy or propertied husbands. The characters of the novel are pre-occupied with money and marriage.
