WHY ARE SNAILS AND TURTLES SO SLOW?

Every animal needs a way to survive in a world full of dangers, such as being eaten. Flying insects, most birds, and many other kinds of animals avoid danger by moving fast. Some other animals grow shells and hide inside them. Animals generally have either a heavy shell or speed, but not both. If an animal uses a lot of nutrients from its food to develop one, it doesn't have much left for the other.
