In which state the king ashoka ruled?

Ashoka  the great is one of India's greatest emperors. He reigned over most of present-day India after a number of military conquests. His empire stretched from eastern Iran in the West, through the Hindu Kush mountains towards Assam in the East and covered the entire Indian subcontinent except parts of present day Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala. The empire had Taxila, Ujjain and Pataliputra as its capital.
