How can we seperate Acetone & water? |
Distillation is separation technique that takes advantage of the large
difference of the boiling points between two (or more) substances. Acetone boils at 56.5 °C, while water boils at 100 °C. This difference is quite large (many times you may need to work with a smaller difference, where contamination is quite a possibility) The distillation apparatus is set up; after some boiling, the acetone should evaporate, and then condense into a separate flask while the water remains in the bottom flask. |
