Examples of Transverse Waves & Longitudinal Waves

A transverse wave is a wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave. Light is an example of a transverse wave. An oscillating string is another example of a transverse wave.

A longitudinal wave is a wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation of wave.  eg: Sound waves.
