| Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja was the prince regent and the de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Kottayam in Malabar between 1774 and 1805.He was a member of the Western Branch of the Kottayam royal clan tracing his lineage to the Parappanad dynasty in north Malabar. Kerala Varma Pazhassiraja was popularly known as the Lion of Kerala.Pazhassi Raja started resisting British Imperialism from the year 1793 till he died in 1805.
