A noun is a word for a person, place, or thing. Everything we can see or talk about is represented by a word which names it. Nouns have different classes: proper and common, concrete and abstract, count and noncount, and collective. Proper nouns name specific, one-of-a-kind items while common nouns identify the general varieties. Proper nouns always begin with capital letters; common nouns, on the other hand, only require capitalization if they start the sentence or are part of a title. You classify concrete and abstract nouns by their ability to register on your five senses. If you can see, hear, smell, taste, or feel the item, it's a concrete noun. Proper nouns: George,Ganga,USA are examples of proper nouns. Common nouns: Boy ,girl women are common nouns. Concrete nouns:Noodles, pizza are concrete nouns. We use our senses to taste it. Abstract nouns: Example: Politeness,Honesty (You cannot feel it or sense it) Countable nouns: Car,bus etc are countable nouns. Non-countable nouns: Sugar Sand are non-countable nouns. Collective nouns:army, troop etc are collective nouns. |
