Why the principle focus and center of curvature is always behind(inside) the mirror in case of a convex mirror?

The principle focus and centre of curvature is kept inside the convex mirror that only any incident ray on mirror is diverged out by reflection and hence it is a virtual image. The convex mirror is also called divergent mirror.
