what is the traditional activities of gujjar bakarwals |
The pattern of the cyclic movement of the pastoral nomads in india between summer and winter pastures was typical of many pastoral communities of the himalayas like the gujjar bakarwalas of jammu and kashmir. The gujjar bakarwalas of jammu and kashmir lived with their herds in the low hills of shiwalik range when the high mountains were covered with snow in winter .The dry scrub forests have provided pature for their herds.By april they started to move north for their summer grazing grounds to the higher mountain meadows of the kashmir valley.in summer the mountain insides were lush green and the variety of grasses provided rich nutrition for the herds.by september they began their downward journey back to their winter base in the low hills. This continuous movement allowed the pasture to recover and prevent their overuse. |
