Transportation may be defined as the carrying goods and services from one place to another through different modes. Modes of Transportation. Land- Road,Railway. Water-Inland,Oceanic. Air Transportation Land transportation It includes Roads and Railways transportation systems.The road transportation can be classified in to: 1.Express Highways 2.National Highways 3.State Highways 4.District Roads 5.Rural Roads Railway Transportation It is commonly used long distance transportation in India and also carrying large amount of goods.Railway were introduced to India in 1853 from Mumbai to Thane.It is handled Central Government of India.Types of Rails are; 1.Metro Rails 2.Mono Rails 3.Tram and Light Rail 4.suburban rails For administrative convenience Indian Railway is divided into different Zones. Water Transportation It consist of Inland water transport and Maritime Transport(Oceanic) Inland Water transport - River,Lake,Lagoons etc. Maritime Transport - Through ocean.
