If natural items like plants, living things, etc mix with soil, why could not plastic, steel, etc mix with soil?

Plants and Animals are decayed (mixed with soil) by the micro organisms present in the soil whereas plastics cannot be decayed by microorganisms. Steel can undergo corrosion (destruction of the material).
