Why is Adam Smith called ' the father of modern economics'?

Adam Smith is the father economics, not so much the father of "modern" economics. We don't utilize a truly free market in this country. Most countries use a form of a mixed economy, as we do in the United States. John Maynard Keynes is actually the father of "modern" economics because of government intervention through fiscal and monetary policy.
