However,  Since independence, Government of India have been trying to eradicate poverty through various  policies and programmes. As per the lastest estimates ( Ranga Rajan Commtte Report 2014), 29.5 percent of the Indian population are still poor. 

I am just pointing out some of the ways in which the levels of poverty can be reduced.

1. officials involved in poverty eradication programme are mostly corrupt. remove them.

2. training needs to be given to the officials working in the areas of poverty alleviation programmes.

3. strengthen Public Distribution System (government is doing it now)

4. Increase food production further

5. Implement employment assurance scheme effectively

6. Develop  new poverty eradication programmes or rectify the limitations of existing programmes
