Describe the role of merchants and industrialists in the Civil Disobedience Movement.

Durig the first World War,Indian Merchants and Industrialist had made huge profits and become powerful.Keen on expanding their business,they now reacted against colonialist policies that restricted business activities.They wanted protection against imports of foreign goods,and rupees-sterlling foreign exchange ratio would discourage  imports.To organize business interest they formed Indian industrial and Commercial Congress in 1920 and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and industry 1927.They gave financial assistance and refused to buy or sell imported goods.Most businessmen came to see Swaraj
as a time when a colonial restriction on business would no longer exit and trade and industry would flourish without constrints
