what do you mean by food security? |
Globally, the term food security was first coined in the World Food Summit of 1996. It defined food security exist when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life. Commonly, the concept of food security is defined as including both physical and economic access to food that meets people's dietary needs as well as their food preferences. The major components of food security are food availability, food accessibility and food use. With a view to provide food at a subsidized rate, Government of India passed the National Food Security Act, 2013 (also Right to Food Act). It is an Act of the Parliament which aims to provide food grains at a cheaper rate to approximately two thirds country’s population. It was signed into law on September 12, 2013, retroactive to July 5, 2013. |
