there is a change in the variety of fauna with the corresponding change in flora.justify the given statement with examples from indian natural vegetation. |
Flora change may predict fauna change up to certain extent. 1. There are certain animals whose distribution is closely linked to plant distribution especially those whose diet is restricted to either a single plant or specific plants which are only found in that particular region. 2. For example some species are dependent on the diet of some plants for laying eggs or for pupation. Similarly, some grazing insects are dependent on particular trees for their diet. 3. However, it should be noted that change in the variety of animals are not entirely dependent on the corresponding change in the vegetation. Various other factors like climate and relief also contribute in their existence. Various examples can be sight in India where change in fauna is dependent on corresponding change in flora. Red Panda is found in those regions of foothills of the Himalayas where bamboo vegetation is grown in abundance. Yak is found in northern hilly areas. They eat grasses, tree, shrubs found only in their habitat. Camels are found in desert areas because they eat dates, grass, grain, hay, dry fodder and leaves of Khejri trees which are abundant in desert areas only. Indian Bison are largely confined to evergreen or semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forest. They eat grasses found in these forests. |
