how can we determine the atomicity
Atomicity  is the total number of atoms present in one molecule of an element of a substance  Consider the formation of HCl from hydrogen and chlorine .The balanced equation can be written as,
               H2         +   Cl2        _________>   2HCl 
        1 volumes         1 volume                      2 volumes
         n molecules     n molecules                   2n molecules 
 (1volume of gas contains n  molecules )
1 molecule            +   1 molecule  ________> 2 molecules (dividing by 'n' ) 
 1/2   molecules     +     1/2molecule  _______> 1 molecule
This suggests that 1 molecule of hydrogen chloride contains 1/2 molecule of hydrogen and 1/2 molecule of chlorine .Atomicity of hydrogen and chlorine is 2 and also HCl is 2
