Dams also can cause some environmental threats right?

Though the dams help in the supply of drinking water, irrigation facilities, recreational spots, generation of hydro-electric power it can cause certain environmental issues as well. The following are some of the negative impact of dams.
1. Dams act as a barrier in between the upstream and down stream movement of the river thus hindering the migration of certain fishes and aquatic creatures.
2. Dams restrict the flow of sediments by the river and thus prevents the formation of deltas, ox bow lakes and coastal shores. The sedimentation in the reservoir gradually reduces its capacity of water storage and low hydro electric productivity.
3. Reservoir of dams act as a good breeding ground for the disease vectors like mosquitoes.
4. Dams when break due to engineering errors or natural disaster cause catastrophic effects to the life downstream.
5. Sudden increase in the volume of reservoir water cause flood in the adjacent areas causing damage to cultivation and human life.
6. Dam reservoirs also contribute for climate change. warm climate reservoirs generate methane, a green house gas which aid for environmental pollution and increase in atmospheric temperature.
