| '1857' marked an important era in the history of India.The Revolt of 1857 was an important incident in the the history of India. This was the first revolt fought against British with a great popular support.All most all categories of people, from peasants to Indian rulers, participated in this revolt. This was the first revolt that spread to almost all parts of India. So this war was described as the First War of Independence.As a result of this revolt the rule of East India Company came to an end and India came under the direct control of the British Queen with the Queen's proclamation. |
