HOW FEMINISM AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT DOES EFFECT MALAYALAM LITERATURE

The condition of women in Kerala was horrible during the middle ages and the early modern age. The prevalent social set up and customs were not favourable for women and their freedom and dignity. These were reflected in the literary works of many malayalam writers. They pointed out the problems of women and urged for a social change. Literature was the most effective tool for mass communication during the middle ages. This initiated the malayalam writers to fight against the social evils against women through their writings as literature was the most effective tool for expressing ideas during the middle ages. Thus the common women became aware of their rights and dignity and to a certain limit it helped to increase public awareness. It also helped to get the attention of the authorities which brought about considerable changes in society and legislation. The prominent among the malayalam feminist and women rights were Sugathakumari, Kamala Surayya, Sara Joseph, Anita Nair.
