Difference between reflex action and voluntary action

Both actions involve impulses being sent along motor neurons to the effectors that bring about the required response, but voluntary actions are under conscious control and are too slow to prevent harm to the body.Reflex actions bring about a rapid response by missing out the brain. The spinal cord acts as the coordinator and impulses are sent via a relay neuron instead. This basically short-circuits the brain, resulting in fewer neurons being used in the pathway.
