WHAT DOES THE WORD PLASMOLYSED REALLY MEAN?

When cell is placed in a hypertonic solution water moves out, first from cytoplasm and then from vacuole.  Cell membrane shrinks away from the cell wall.  This is known as plasmolysis.  The cells that exhibit this condition are called as plasmolysed.  So we can say that plasmolysed refers to a condition in which the cell membrane shrinks away from the cell wall due to loss of water.
