What is drainage basins? What is meant by drainage basins of the peninsular rivers are comparatively small in size?

A drainage basin is an area of land drained by a river and its tributaries (river system). It includes water found in the water table and surface run-off. There is an imaginary line separating drainage basins called a watershed. Usually, this is a ridge of high land.
A large number of the Peninsular rivers are seasonal, as their flow is dependent on rainfall. The Peninsular rivers are seasonal, as their flow is dependent on rainfall. As a result the  Peninsular rivers have shorter and shallower courses as compared to their Himalayan rivers.
