name the compound formed on heating a mixture of iron and sulphur?. if Hcl is added to above compound then name the gas evolved and write down its two properties?

Iron and Sulphur on heating reacts to form Iron sulphide (FeS).
                            Fe(s) + S(s) ----> FeS(s)

When HCl is added to it it forms Ferrous chloride ans H2S gas.

                   FeS(s) + 2HCl(aq) -----> FeCl2(aq) + H2S(g)
It is a double displacement reaction.

Properties of H2S:
  1. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) occurs naturally in crude petroleum, natural gas, volcanic gases, and hot springs.
  2. Hydrogen sulfide is a flammable, colorless gas with a characteristic odor of rotten eggs.
  3.  It is commonly known as hydrosulfuric acid, sewer gas, and stink damp. People can smell it at low levels.
