A d BLOCK ELEMENT IRON(Fe) FORMS TWO TYPES OF COMPOUNDS,FeSO4 AND Fe2(SO4)3 a) which of these compounds contains ferric(Fe3+) IRON?

Fe2(SO4)3 contains Fe3+ions  this can be identified by oxidation number of an element.

Rules for finding oxidation number of an element;
  1. The oxidation number of a free element is always 0.
  2. The oxidation number of a monatomic ion equals the charge of the ion.
  3. Fluorine in compounds is always assigned an oxidation number of -1.
  4. The alkali metals (group I) always have an oxidation number of +1.
  5. The alkaline earth metals (group II) are always assigned an oxidation number of +2.
  6. Oxygen almost always has an oxidation number of -2, except in H2O2 (when it is -1) and in OF2 (when it is +2).
  7. Hydrogen has an oxidation number of +1 when combined with non-metals, but it has an oxidation number of -1 when combined with metals.
  8. The algebraic sum of the oxidation numbers of elements in a compound is zero.
  9.   The algebraic sum of the oxidation states in an ion is equal to the charge on the ion.
