WHY AgBr SHOWS BOTH FRENKEIL & SCHOTKY DEFECTS |
Schotky defects happen when two opposite charged ions are absent from their own regular crystal lattice .In AgBr ,the Ag + ions and the corresponding Br- ions are absent from the crystal lattice which causes the Schotky defect. Frenkel defect is due to the shifting of one ion from its normal position to interstitial position causing a vacancy in the original position. Here the Ag+ions are exceptionally mobile and they have a tendency to move about inside the crystal lattice .This favors Frenkel defect . |
