What is the difference between an Equation and a polynomial? |
A polynomial is an expression of finite length constructed from variables (also called indeterminates) and constants, using only the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and non-negative integer exponents. For example, x2 ? x/4 + 7 is a polynomial. An equation, in a mathematical context, is generally understood to mean a mathematical statement that asserts the equality of two expressions. This is written by placing the expressions on either side of an equals sign (=), for example x + 3 = 5. |
