what are the importance of metals ? what are the uses of different metals?

Metals are vital in human life .Without metals,the objects we depend on every day including computer could not exist .Metals are recyclable with no loss of properties .Metals play a major role in nutrition in humans,that is our body takes many metals such as zinc,copper,manganese etc. .Metals and non metals are used for making tools ,machines, cars,trucks, ,houses ,utensils etc .

 The metals used by man has now grown in number that are gold, silver,copper,mercury ,iron, zinc,chromium,nickel,titanium,tin,germanium,lead, platinum etc..

Uses of metals 

Gold   :   Gold is used  in jewellery,It is used in ayurvedic medicines in the form of fine power .It is used in dentists for filling cavities and making artificial teeth and it is used for making components of space satellites and coins .

Silver    :   It is used in coins,jewellery, cutlery, dentistry and for making silver foils .It is used for making cables in very sensitive electrical gadgets .It is the best conductor of electricity Its compound silver nitrate is used in photography and for seeding in artificial rain .

Copper   :   Next to silver ,copper is the best conductor of electricity It is used for making cables ,utensils ,statues ,coins and for making alloys like brass  ,bronze ans German silver .

 Iron         :   It finds use in agricultural tools and elements construction of buildings ,machine parts and furniture, Its alloy called steel is used for utensils ,space craft bodies ,railway carriages ,T.V towers ,microwave transmission towers ,construction of bridges and ships etc .

Tin  :   It is used for tinning copper and brass vessels because cooked food cannot kept long in  copper and brass vessels .This is called tinning .Tin is also used for making alloys like bronze and making fuse wires .

Lead   :  It is used in lead accumulators .sanitary pipes and tip of bullets and also used for making solder .

Zinc  : It is used for making roofs of houses ,for galvanizing iron objects as electrode in electricalcells .

Aluminium   :   It is used for making utensils ,aeroplane parts ,electrical cables ,T.V antennas and alluminium foils for making surgical instruments 

Magnesium  :   It is used for making alloys and in fuse wire and for ,making organometallic compounds .

Mercury    :    It is used in thermometer  and barometers and its alloy called amalgam used  for making organometallic compounds .

Titanium  :   It is used for making building space craft equipments and also used  in submarines .

Germanium  :   It is used as semiconductor in solar devices ,transistors etc .

Chromium  :   It is used for chromium plating iron objects . Alloy of iron and chromium with a small percentage of carbon is called stainless steel .

Platinum  :    It is a silvery white metal and it is the most popular in jewellery .
