The Iron Age is considered the last of three technological periods in human civilization, preceded by the Bronze Age and the Stone Age. The beginning of the Iron Age in any culture is marked by a switch from bronze forging to iron smelting, which changed human technology at every level. Often the adoption of iron also coincided with massive cultural changes in religion, art and politics.
