what is centripetal force?

The force which acts continuously on a particle initially moving with a linear velocity and makes it travel along a circular path is called centripetal force.

Examples of centripetal force :

1) The frictional force applied by the rails on the wheels of a train moving on a curved path.

2)The gravitational force of attraction of the Earth on the Moon.

3)The electrostatic force of the nucleus on the revolving electron.
