Mainframe computers are computers used primarily by corporate and governmental organizations for critical applications, bulk data processing such as census, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise resource planning, and transaction processing. Banks and Financial Institutions Banking and financial institutions use mainframe computers to perform thousands of customer transactions per second, support thousands of applications that concurrently access multiple resources, manage and store terabytes of database information and handle large volumes of communication. Health Care Mainframe computers are used in health care organizations to improve productivity, maximize revenues and streamline information. Insurance Companies Insurance companies store business data and other records on mainframe computers. The machines process large volumes of numerical data generated by insurance companies.
