An alternating current is one whose magnitude changes with time and direction reverses periodically.Alternating current is written in short form as A.C.(or a.c.).Most of the power stations in India generate alternating current. The alternating current produced in India reverses its direction every 1/100 second. Thus, the positive(+) and negative(-) polarity of an alternating current is not fixed. Some of the sources which produce alternating current are power house generators, car alternators and bicycle dynamos. An important advantage of alternating current is that alternating current can be transmitted over long distances without much loss of electrical energy. |
