what is adaptive radiation |
An adaptive radiation is a burst of evolution, creating several new species out of a single parent species. For example, beetle radiations may have been triggered by adaptations for feeding on flowering plants. To radiate means to spread outward. It refers to one or a few species which diversify ("spread out") and generate multiple daughter species. |
