4. What do you meant by Geo stationary satellite (Synchronous satellites)?

Consider a satellite revolving round the earth from west to east in its orbit in such a way that completes its one round in 24 hours as the earth does about its own axis from west to east.Such a satellite is called 'Geostationary Satellite' and its orbit is called geostationary orbit.

The following conditions should be satisfied for a satellite to be a geostationary satellite.

(i) It should revolve about the same axis as that of earth from west to east in an orbit concentric and coplanar with the equitorial plane.

(ii) It should have period of revolution exactly 24 hours and the height of its orbit should be nearly 36000 km,from the surface of earth.
