Mappila Riots or Mappila Outbreaks refers to a series of riots by the Mappila , Muslims of Malabar, in between c.1836–1921 against Hindu landlords and the state. The Malabar Rebellion of 1921 is often considered as the culmination of Mappila riots.Mappilas committed several atrocities against the Hindus during the outbreak. Mappila Rebellion an anti feudal and anti-imperialist uprising of the Mappilas of the Malabar district of Madras Province in British India during 1921.The majority of the Mappilas were tenant-farmers and agricultural laborers. This rebellion was one of the major peasant uprisings during the revolutionary movement of 1918–22. The rebellion began after British colonial troops attacked a large gathering of believers in a mosque in the small town of Tirurangadi on August 20. The rebels seized railroads, cut telegraph lines, and paralyzed the British administration. |
