WHAT IS A Noun

Read the following sentences and note the words given in the bold:

• 1.      The sky is blue.
• 2.      The birds make a forest lively.
• 3.      Our students are working hard for their exams.
• 4.      John and Jake are best friends.

The words sky, birds, forest, students, John, Jake and friends are names. They are all NOUNS.

Hence, a noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing, quality, action, feeling etc.

In simple words, noun is a naming word.
