WHAT ARE INSCRIPTIONS?
The use of inscription in the ancient world has importance in helping preserve information on those ancient cultures for which we can find such artifacts. The use of inscription occurred in a variety of different ancient cultures both in the Western world and elsewhere. It also commonly occurred within the context of the early Christian church. These ancient inscriptions provide insights into the history of the cultures that used them and into the development of doctrinal thought in the Christian church, and they also act as a means of transmission of poetic and literary writings from the ancient to the modern world.
