What is an Esterification reaction?

Carboxylic acids react with alcohols in the presence of a strong acid catalyst like sulphuric acid or HCl to form esters .This reaction is reversible and is called esterification .The equilibrium can be shifted to the right by using excess of alcohol or removal of water by distillation .
