On June 23^rd 1757, at the Battle of Plassey, the forces of the East India Company under Robert Clive defeated the army of Siraj-ud-daulah, the Nawab of Bengal. This battle  very important in the Indian history as it established the Company rule in Bengal which expanded over much of India for the next hundred years.
